- Firefighters managed to get the five-alarm fire in West Philly under control around 7:30 p.m. last night. Residents of about ninety apartments were evacuated. Two nearby schools will be closed today. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed by the blaze. [Philadelphia Inquirer]
- Two men were stabbed in Northern Liberties last night. The first man, a fifty-six–year-old, was found dead at Seventh and Brown streets, while the other was found alive, with a stab wound in the neck, at Eighth and Fairmount. He was rushed to the hospital. Police are still looking for the suspect and a motive for the attacks.[ABC]
- Seven cars on a CSX freight train derailed in Fairmount Park last night. Three of the cars were empty. No one was injured, but Kelly Drive and Girard Avenue were closed. [Philadelphia Inquirer]
- Jean Webster, a retired chef who opened a soup kitchen in Atlantic City in 1986, passed away at seventy-five. "Sister Jean's Soup Kitchen" provided hot meals to homeless people twice a day. At the time of her death, the kitchen was serving up to 400 people a day at the Presbyterian Deliverance Church in Atlantic City. [NBC]
